MJ – Sportvasten

I searched online for personal training online. I wanted a boost to my current level of fitness/metabolism because I haven’t been able to properly exercise and diet due to COVID-19 etc. I chose sportsfasting because it was a short amount of period (10 days) with relatively less financial commitment (400 euros) than one-on-one personal training (e.g. 10x training 630,- (63,- per sessie)) (probably not the best motivation I realize :)). For me, the purpose was to make the switch/boost for my metabolism so I didn’t set high expectations for the weight.

Overall, the experience was good. I lost 3.6kg and I feel much lighter with my body. Sportfasting is a mind-set. If you are willing to commit yourself for 10 days, you will succeed. I was fasting during the heatwave so committing myself to train 30min-60 min on the cross-trainer at the gym was a challenge during 30-32 degree weather (even if it was indoors). What I gained the most was the realization of how much excess food I was eating that was not necessary. For example, I would drink 500ml of orange juice as a snack(?) in one go and I would eat 200-300g of rice/noodles for a meal. From the recommended eating diet during the sportsfasting period, I got a better sense of portion control (e.g.100g of cooked rice with vegetables). I found day 3 (the day before fasting) and day 4 (first day of fasting) the hardest due to different energy levels. I didn’t feel as much muscle pain or cramps as Joël warned me about. Day 9 and 10 were a bit challenging not because of the energy or fitness level but mentally it was hard to keep motivated because of the weather (33 degrees). I think the main challenge for me now is to maintain the results over the upcoming period. I will do my best to maintain the diet that was recommended during the sportsfast. Joël was very thorough and had good advice for keeping up with the sportsfasting. I would recommend sportsfasting for those who are looking for a transition in their regular dieting or for those who are looking for a boost in their fitness.
